Bombing Raid on Kiska Island

Bombing Raid on Kiska Island

Original colour documentry footage of B-17`s and B-24`s attacking Japanese forces on the island of Kiska. The Japanese captured Kiska on 6/06/1942, as a diversionary part of the Japanese plan for the Battle of Midway. This island in the Aleutian island chain, was of little military importance, but the psychological impact of losing U.S. territory was significant. 17/08/1943, the US invasion force landed, only to find the island completely abandoned. The Japanese had withdrawn the previous month under cover of fog. Allied casualties during the invasion nevertheless numbered close to 200, due to friendly fire or booby traps.
