World War Two - Iwo Jima
Long video which shows the scale of the attack on Iwo Jima. The battle "took place between the United States and the Japanese Empire in February and March 1945. It was the first American attack on the Japanese Home Islands and the Imperial soldiers defended their positions tenaciously. Of the 21,000 Japanese soldiers present at the beginning of the battle, over 20,000 were killed and only 216 taken prisoner. The Imperial Japanese Army positions on the island were heavily fortified, with vast bunkers, hidden artillery, and 18 kilometers (11 miles) of tunnels." American strength was about 110,000 soldiers. This video is taken from raw aerial footage. There are no close combat shots or major incidents. Taken from http://www.webalice.it/romanoarchives/. (Original video had poor music so I replaced it with "Subtext" by John Foxx & Harold Budd and "Fred's World" by Angelo Badalamenti - Lost Highway OST.)
